Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) and Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) sign an MoU on cooperation
On May 16, 2017, Minister of Science and Technology Chu Ngọc Anh and VNU President Nguyễn Kim Sơn signed an MoU on cooperation as one of the activities to celebrate the 2017 Science and Technology Day and the 100th Founding anniversary of VNU (16/5/1906- 16/5/2017).

According to the MoU, VNU and MOST are to collaborate in developing fundamental, supply/demand activities; assisting in applying and improving technology at VNU to  contribute to the developing of national products and high-tech products within  the 2020 Science and Technology Development Program and the Program for Science and Technology Enterprises and Autonomous public science and technology organizations Development Support.

Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, VNU President Nguyễn Kim Sơn said that, over the past years, besides promoting its fundamental science research in key scientific fields, VNU had focused on developing applied research relating to enterprises; pioneered the building of start-ups in line with the motto “Science and technology are a driving force for research university development towards autonomy and university rankings based on new scientific achievements, new scientific products; and new quality reality-responsive training programs”.

VNU President Nguyễn Kim Sơn also shared that, in addition to broadening international cooperation, VNU signed numerous agreements with provinces, institutions and business partners such as Hanoi, Quang Ninh province, Ha Giang province, Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, Viettel Group, the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam JSC (BIDV), …in an attempt to carry out scientific research and technology transfer.

VNU President Nguyễn Kim Sơn hoped to further receive support from the Vietnamese Communist Party and Government, the Ministry of Science and Technology as well as effective cooperation from provinces, enterprises in order to develop VNU into a start-up centre to connect national and international science and technology activities.

Also at the signing ceremony, expressing his impression and high appreciation of VNU’s achievements confirming its position as a leading centre for training, research and technology in Vietnam, Science and Technology Minister Chu Ngọc Anh hoped that VNU would continue promoting its tradition and strengths to cooperate with MOST in effectively implementing projects of mutual concern as a contribution to the national development.

The Minister also highly appreciated the objectives and content of the agreement with VNU and promised to support and promote research activities meeting both enterprises’ and society’s demands.

At the ceremony, VNU Vive President Lê Quân and MOST National Agency for Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Development Deputy Head Trần Xuân Đích – Head of the 2017 VNU Creativity and Start-up Contest Board of Examiners awarded the Certificates of participation to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes winners.

Also at the ceremony, VNU President Nguyễn Kim Sơn announced the Decision to change the name of VNU Centre for Cooperating and Transferring Knowledge to VNU Centre for Enabling Startups and Knowledge Transfer and the Decision to appoint Mr. Vương Quốc Thắng Director of the Centre.

During the activities celebrating the 2017 Vietnam Science and Technology Day, MOST Minister and VNU President cut the ribbon to inaugurate VNU Talent Incubator and Startup Assistance Building which housed VNU Technology Licensing Office (TLO) and VNU Technology Transfer Office (TTO) – the first offices in Vietnam specialized in the fields of inspection, technology licensing and transfer.
