Faculty of Mathematics, Mechanics and Informatics alumnus won the 2017 Ta Quang Buu Award
Assoc.Prof. Nguyễn Sum from Quy Nhơn University is one of the two 2017 Ta Quang Buu Award winners.

Assoc.Prof. Nguyễn Sum became a graduate student at VNU University of Science Faculty of Mathematics, Mechanics and Informatics in 1992. In 1994, at VNU University of Science, graduate student Nguyễn Sum successfully defended his doctoral dissertation entitled "The impact of the Steenrod operator on modular invariants and its application in building lambda algebra" under the guidance of Prof.Dr.Sc. Nguyễn Hữu Việt Hưng, a winner of the 1st Ta Quang Buu Award in 2014, and Assoc.Prof.Dr. Huỳnh Mùi.

Since the first Ta Quang Buu Award, VNU University of Science Faculty of Mathematics, Mechanics and Informatics has become the first training unit in the system of training institutions nationwide to have had both its lecturer and student as winners of this prestigious award.

Established in 2014, the annual Ta Quang Buu Award honours scientists for their outstanding achievements in natural sciences basic research and engineering for promoting Vietnam science and technology’s integration and development.
