The Intel ISEF 2017, the world’s largest international pre-college science competition, attracted about 1,800 high school students from 78 countries worldwide.
This year, Ivo Zell, an 18-year old student from Germany, was awarded first place for his design entitled “A Wing Is Enough: An Improved Flying Wing Based on a Bell-Shaped Lift Distribution” and received the Gordon E. Moore Award of US$75,000; Amber Yang and Valerio Pagliarino won Intel Foundation Young Scientist Awards of U$50,000 each.
In Chemistry, fourth awards of U$500 each were presented to two groups of students, including Trần Đan Khuê - Vũ Nam Anh from VNU University of Science High School for Gifted Students and Bùi Đỗ Minh Quân - Đỗ Mai from Trần Phú Gifted High School (Hải Phòng).
In the Robotics and Intelligent Machines category, Phạm Quang Huy, a Quảng Trị Town High School student, won third award of U$1,000 for designing a prosthetic arm for the disable; Chử Hoàng Minh Đức and Phạm Thiên Tân from Lê Hồng Phong High School for the Gifted (Ho Chi Minh city) won fourth award for their “Translating Glove for the Deaf-Mute Compatible with Smartphones”.
In Systems Software, Trần Thị Anh Thư from Lâm Đồng province won an award for the Android Application ‘Chemoscope’ using augmented and mixed reality to assist Chemistry learners.
