Nearly 6,000 students sit for VNU specialized high schools Grade 10 entrance examination
From June 3 to June 5, 2017, VNU University of Science (HUS) High School for Gifted Students and VNU University of Languages and International Studies (ULIS) Foreign Language Specialized School administered their Grade 10 entrance examinations.

 

In 2017, VNU HUS High School for Gifted Students and VNU ULIS Foreign Language Specialized School featured among Hanoi’s specialized schools with highest competitiveness thanks to their adjusted examination timing.

On June 3, 2017, VNU ULIS Foreign Language Specialized School held its Grade 10 entrance examination. This year, the school offered only 380 specialized stream seats and 80 non-specialized ones while there were as many as 3,402 candidates sitting for the examination, raising the odds up to 1/9.

Also this year, VNU ULIS Foreign Language Specialized School has for the first time applied the form of competency assessment test. For the English language test (double valued), candidates had to do both multiple-choice and production questions in 120 minutes. For the Japanese, Russian, French, Chinese, German and Korean tests, students had to complete production questions in 60 minutes and a 10-minute face-to-face interview.

Following VNU ULIS, on June 4 and 5, 2017, VNU HUS High School for Gifted Students administered its Grade 10 entrance examination to select 450 students nationwide from 2,430 applicants.

This year, the school still applied its traditional production tests. Candidates had do three writing tests of Literature, Maths (in 120 minutes) and specialized subjects (150 minutes). Test scores were calculated on a ten-point scale.

VNU University of Science has set aside a maximum of 10% of the total specialized stream seats (about 45) to admit applicants with excellent performance.

The results of the named examinations are to be announced before June 30, 2017.
