VNU Vietnam-Japan University: The 2017 - 2018 Academic Year launched with the philosophy of liberal education
On September 9, 2017, the 7th member of Vietnam National University, Hanoi – Vietnam-Japan University (VJU) held the Opening Ceremony of its 2017-2018 academic year.

VNU President, VJU Council Chairman Nguyễn Kim Sơn attended the Ceremony and delivered a speech.

In his opening remarks, VJU Rector Prof. Dr. Furuta Motoo stated that in the past year, over 100 faculty members from Vietnam and Japan had delivered lectures at VJU. They recognized and appreciated the efforts of the first cohort in promoting VJU’s image as a high quality university.

In his speech, VJU Rector Furuta Motoo reiterated the University’s education philosophies including liberal education, sustainable development and student-centered approach. Closing the ceremony, Rector Furuta Motoo hoped that VJU students would strive to cultivate their resilience, innovation, and independent critical thinking, without molding themselves into any pattern as "We do not expect you to mold yourselves into a "VJU style”; rather, each of you will shape VJU."

Congratulating the 96 freshmen of VNU VJU, VNU President Nguyễn Kim Sơn also highly appreciated the university’s admissions, training and quality assurance activities.

VNU President suggested that Vietnam-Japan University continue to improve its organization, strategic orientation, curriculum structure, core faculty building, facilities building in Hoa Lac, research and publicization promoting ... “The university needs to pay attention to prestige, quality right from the first step and in all its activities. It is necessary to build Vietnam-Japan University’s identity both special and in harmony with VNU’s identity and class”, VNU President requested. VNU President also reaffirmed his utmost support for VJU’s development.

Calling on the students to make their best efforts in learning, VNU President Nguyễn Kim Sơn said, "Studying at VJU not only for knowledge and skills but also for acting as a friendship and cultural exchange ambassador for both Vietnam and Japan.”
