QS University Rankings - Asia 2019: Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) went up to 124th place
According to Quacquarelli Symonds’ (QS) 2019 regional university ranking results for Asia, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) has climbed 15 places to rank 124th, while VNU, Ho Chi Minh City ranked 144th.

QS Regional University Ranking 2019 lists 7 Vietnam universities in the top 500 Asian universities, including VNU, Hanoi (124th), VNU, Ho Chi Minh City (144th), Hanoi University of Science and Technology (in Group 261 - 270), Ton Duc Thang University (in Group 291 – 300), Can Tho University (in Group 351 - 400), Da Nang University and Hue Universtiy (in Group 451 – 500).

In addition to the 10 general indicators (Employer reputation, Academic reputation, Faculty/student ratio, Staff with a PhD, Papers per faculty, Citations per paper, Proportion of international faculty, Proportion of international students, Proportion of inbound exchange students and Proportion of outbound exchange students), QS Asia University Rankings 2019 added 2 more indicators including International Research Network (10%); and the survey of scholars and recruiters adjusted for the selection and analysis of data, with the number of scholars and employers surveyed increasing by 38% compared to the previous year.

According to VNU Vice President Nguyễn Hữu Đức, this year, VNU had some indicators compared to the average of the top 500 universities in Asia and several good criteria such as the Academic reputation, Employer reputation, Outbound exchange students and International cooperation in research. Especially, for the Citations per paper, VNU surpassed Asia’s average threshold (Asia: 4.5 times/ article while VNU: 5.1 times).

Among 498 higher education institutions from 17 countries ranked in the QS Asia University Rankings 2019, the top ten includes the National University of Singapore, Hongkong University, Nanyang Technological University, Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology – KAIST (South Korea), Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Seoul University.

Previously, in June 2018, according to Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings 2019, VNU, Hanoi and VNU, Ho Chi Minh City had been listed among the world’s top 1,000 universities for the first time.
