11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis

- Determined the current methodologies for industrial wastewater estimation in environmental impact assessment (EIA) reports of industrial park (IP) infrastructure construction projects in Vietnam. Accordingly, the number of industrial wastewater estimation is much higher than the wastewater generation.

- Determined factors affecting the amount of wastewater generated from IP based on water balance analysis and regression analysis.

- Established wastewater generation factor based on area for some common industrial sectors in Vietnam’s IPs, including: (1) chemistry; (2) plastic, rubber; (3) apparel; (4) tanning; (5) weaving; (6) dyeing; (7) mechanical; (8) packaging; (9) electronics; (10) foodstuffs

- Established the formula for estimating the amount of wastewater on the basis of the regression analysis between industrial wastewater quantity and the number of enterprises, number of employees and area for 03 industrial sectors: (1) pharmaceuticals; (2) leather and footwear products; (3) building materials.

- Classification of industrial sectors of a similar characteristics in wastewater generation based on principle component analysis (PCA); established the formula for estimating the amount of wastewater on the basis of regression analysis by groups for 2 sectors: (1) washing and (2) producing metal.

-  Established the formula to estimate total amount of wastewater generated from IP.

12. Practical applicability, if any:

The results achieved in thesis can be applied in EIA of IP infrastructure construction projects in Vietnam, contributed to accurate estimation of industrial wastewater generation, thus designing appropriate capacity for centralized wastewater treatment plants in IPs; and avoided wastage in investment and operation of centralized wastewater treatment plants; and reduced environmental pollution caused industrial wastewater.

13. Further research directions, if any

- Study on economic aspect in mitigation wastewater discharge of industrial enterprises in Vietnam. Low water tariff may cause using water more than the industry needed, which will generate more industrial wastewater.

- Study on adjustment of water use demand factor for IPs infrastructure projects in order to make recommendation the level of water supply that appropriate with industrial sectors.

- Study on adjusting the legislation system to encourage reusing of wastewater, building the centralized wastewater treatment plants of IPs as modules and not to use the estimated values ​​in EIA reports as bases to penalize project owner.
