- This is the first comprehensive and systematic study on the classification of the genus Camellia L. in Vietnam until now. The taxa of the genus Camellia L. in Vietnam are now known as 70 species and 01 variety, arranged in a system of 04 subgenera and 20 sections.

- Contributing to the discovery and publication of three new species for science, including Camellia luongii Tran & Le (2015), Camellia ninhii Luong & Le (2016), Camellia tuyenquangensis D. V. Luong, N. N. H. Le & N. Tran (2017); providing additional data for four species, including Camellia yokdonensis Dung & Hakoda, Camellia phanii Hakoda & Ninh, Camellia thanxaensa Hakoda & Kirino, Camellia hirsuta Hakoda & Ninh to satisfy criteria for validly published names of new taxa according to International Code of Botanical Nomenclature.

- Compared to the latest statistics on Camellia L. genus in Viet Nam of Tran Ninh (2002), this study has supplemented with 27 species, supplemented location distribution for 14 species.
