11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis

The study results showed that more than half of couples participated in this research had average high satisfaction level with their married life, from 52 per cent and above. There were 39 per cent of couples indicating their marriage life at average high level and 13 per cent of couples at high level. Only 18 per cent of studied indicated their marriage satisfaction at average low level and 17.7 per cent of couples at low level.

The husbands tended to be more satisfied with their marriage than the wives. Those who live in the city’s inlying areas were happier with their married life than those who live in the suburbs. Those who have not had children were more satisfied with married life than couples with children. Couples who were in the first year of their marriage were happier than those who have been married for 1 to 5 years.

The research evaluated 3 factors that directly affected the satisfaction level in married life of the couples, including: Perception of marital harmony; Communication behaviors with the partner; Feelings about (the) marital relationship. All 3 factors above had a positive correlation with their satisfaction with married life in a relatively tight level. The factor that most affected the satisfaction of couples with their married life was Perception of marital harmony with a high degree of correlation (r = 0,743) and the ability to predict 62,1% of the marital satisfaction level.

The thesis analyzed some typical couples, showing that the two people in the same marriage had different evaluations, experiences and feelings about their married life, even in the case that they both had the same satisfaction level with their married life.
