The first MOU was signed on 19 August 1999 and renewal on 27 November, 2008.
The Vrije Universiteit Brussel is the offshoot of the French-speaking Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) that was founded in 1834 by a Brussels lawyer with Flemish origins, Pierre-Théodore Verhaegen. In University, there are 8 faculties: Faculty of Law and Criminology, Faculty of Economic, Political and Social Sciences and Solvay Business School, Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences , Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, Faculty of Science and Bio-engineering Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Physical Education and Physiotherapy. The Vrije Universiteit Brussel offers 27 bachelor programmes, 68 Dutch and English-language master programmes and 24 master-after-master programmes, as well as a teacher programme and a wide range of post-graduate and post-academic programmes.
The Vrije Universiteit Brussel employed 2,882 staff members on 31 December 2010. The academic personnel consisted of 1,891 people, and included nearly 700 professors. 991 people were employed as administrative and technical staff.
