VNU’s alumnus and lecturer won the 2018 Ta Quang Buu Award
The Ministry of Science and Technology has recently announced the 2018 Ta Quang Buu Award winners. The Ta Quang Buu major category Award will be given to two scientists, Dr. Trần Đình Phong from Hanoi University of Science and Technology, and Assoc.Prof.Dr. Phạm Văn Hùng from Ho Chi Minh City International University.

Dr. Trần Đình Phong, a VNU alumnus of the Talented Bachelor Program in Chemistry, is the author of the scientific work in physics entitled ‘Coordination polymer structure and revisited hydrogen evolution catalytic mechanism for amorphous molybdenum sulfide’ (published in Nature Materials, 15, 640-646).

The 2018 Ta Quang Buu Award for young scientists will be given to Dr. Đỗ Quốc Tuấn from VNU University of Science for his work in physics entitled ‘Higher dimensional nonlinear massive gravity’ (published in Physical Review D 93, 104003).

Launched in 2014, Ta Quang Buu Award has honoured ten outstanding scientists including three scientists from VNU: Prof.Dr.Sc Nguyễn Hữu Việt Hưng - Faculty of Mathematics, Mechanics and Informatics, VNU University of Science (in 2014); Prof.Dr.Sc Đinh Dũng – VNU Information Technology Institute (2015); Assoc.Prof.Dr Nguyễn Ngọc Minh - Faculty of Environment, VNU University of Science (2016). In 2017, Assoc.Prof. Nguyễn Sum - an alumnus of VNU University of Science Faculty of Mathematics, Mechanics and Informatics, was one of the two 2017 Ta Quang Buu Award winners.

The award conferring ceremony is to be held in Hanoi on the occasion of the Vietnam Science and Technology Day, May 18.
