The 7th member of Vietnam National University, Hanoi – Vietnam-Japan University held the launching of its first academic programs in September, 2016. One of the most important and significant achievements of the university was the successful implementation of the first six master’s programs including: Area Studies, Business Administration, Environmental Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, Nano Technology and Public Policy. This achievement is not only the premise for the successful completion of the next master's training but also an evidence of its first training products for the society.

Congratulating the newly graduated masters – those who had first-hand experience of a highly international, modern, advanced higher education environment with the participation of prestigious professors, lecturers and experts from Vietnam and Japan, VNU President Nguyễn Kim Sơn said: "Take pride in and appreciate this achievement to believe in yourself, constantly learn to improve professional knowledge, morality, personality, and sense of social responsibility. Your future success will be the most lively and persuasive evidence for the success of the university's model and philosophy. Your success will inspire not only the staff and lecturers in the university but also the students who will be studying at the school in the future”. VNU President Nguyễn Kim Sơn also expected that the newly graduated masters would maintain a good relationship with their lecturers, friends and at the same time strengthen the connection, regularly exchange and share with both VJU’s and the entire VNU’s alumni community.

VNU President suggested that Vietnam-Japan University should focus on developing training programs and quality training from the bachelor to postgraduate programs, focusing on the advanced technology fields and interdisciplinary science that are the Japanese strengths to meet Vietnam’s needs. In addition, VJU’s training programs must best utilize VNU’s available resources such as facilities, laboratory systems, and especially promote the strength in training, basic science research, applied science and interdisciplinary science of VNU’s training affiliates.

Addressing the delegates, VJU’s Rector Furuta Motoo remarked that the first graduates had actively planned their future long before graduation: 12 decided to continue with doctoral studies, of which 7 received scholarships from the Japanese Government, and 3 received scholarships from leading research universities in Japan (2) and Taiwan (1); 4 decided to work for Japanese corporations in Tokyo and the rest decided to pursue their careers in the global environment or in leading Vietnamese corporations.

At the graduation ceremony, the Special Advisor to the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance Takebe Tsutomu delivered a speech congratulating the initial success of VNU VJU and the newly graduated masters. He said that the event was one of the activities that marked the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Vietnam. He also reminded the first masters of the School to always grasp opportunities to overcome all challenges, thereby to create changes not only for themselves, families but for the whole society.

Encouraged by the success of the first master's course, in the academic year 2018 - 2019, VNU VJU will continue to jointly deliver seven high quality masters programs, including Area Studies, Business Administration, Environmental Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, Nano Technology, Public Policy and Climate Change and Development.

In addition, in the academic year 2019-2020, VJU expects to open an undergraduate program in Japanese Studies. It will be the most comprehensive Japanese bachelor program in Vietnam, not only in the Japanese language and culture training, but also in the fields of economics, law and Japanese-styled management. Especially, VJU students will have opportunities to exchange, transfer to the Japanese partner universities and to do internships at Japanese enterprises.
