Further completing the multidisciplinary and multisectional organizational structure

After 30 years of development since its establishment, VNU's organizational model has basically come into stable operation. VNU focused on prioritizing internal governance reform to meet its development goals in line with the tasks assigned by the Party, State and the people. In recent years, VNU's development indicators have always been secured and stable.

VNU is a multidisciplinary and multisectional higher education institution; a system of training, scientific research, service and knowledge transfer units, structured towards an innovation system and startup support. The VNU organizational model allows its members and affiliated units to use and share common resources, thereby complementing, connecting, linking, and unifying each other to create synergy and solidarity, striving for the same goal, thus creating added values in training and scientific research.

While waiting for the Government and the Prime Minister to promulgate new Decree and Regulations on the National University, VNU has gradually improved its organizational structure and implemented decentralization, and increased autonomy in accordance with the Law on Higher Education, Government Decrees on university autonomy. From the beginning of 2023, based on its operational needs, VNU has drastically led and directed the implementation of the following: (1) Further consolidating and establishing the university councils of VNU’s member universities; (2) Approving the Project for developing VNU School of Interdisciplinary Studies for the 2023-2025 period, vision to 2030; (3) Transforming the organizational model of VNU International Francophone Institute to VNU’s affiliated school; (4) Adjusting functions, tasks and change the name of VNU Development Centre in Hoa Lac to VNU Campus Management Centre; (5) Transferring the Construction Hospital under the Ministry of Construction and reorganizing it into VNU University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital; (6) Completing the Project and implementing the relevant processes and procedures to submit to competent authorities for consideration and decision on the merger of Ha Tinh University as a VNU’s member university; (7) Implementing the health sciences development project in VNU, etc.

Up to now, VNU has 1 advisory and assisting unit (VNU administrative unit that includes VNU Office of the President and VNU’s functional departments); 13 university-level training units, including 9 member universities (VNU University of Science, VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU University of Languages and International Studies, VNU University of Engineering and Technology, VNU University of Economics and Business, VNU University of Education, Vietnam Japan University, VNU University of Medicine and Pharmacy and VNU University of Law), and 4 affiliated schools (VNU School of Management and Business, VNU International School, VNU School of Interdisciplinary Studies, VNU International Francophone Institute); 2 general subject training centres (VNU National Defense and Security Centre, VNU Centre for Physical Education and Sports); 6 research institutes (including 5 member research institutes and 1 affiliated institute); and 15 service units.
