VNU HUS and NUS: cooperation opportunity in Biopharmaceuticals

On March 23, 2023, representatives of VNU-HUS met with representatives of the Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Science and Technology, National University of Singapore (NUS) to exchange experiences in developing training programs on Biopharmaceuticals.

In his introduction, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Wai Keung Chui from NUS emphasized two points:

- The development of a discipline should not be fixed in one direction. Expanding and creating connections with other fields will make it more compelling. Currently, at the Department of Pharmacology of NUS, the training disciplines are developed in two directions: in-depth research and applied technologies.

- NUS always creates conditions for students to have internships at partner companies and universities around the world. This will be a time for students to gain practical experience, accumulate necessary skills through specific studies, projects or jobs, thereby helping to improve the program training quality.

According to Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ngac An Bang, VNU-HUS is going to recruit students for the new Program Bachelor in Biopharmaceutical. Therefore, this meeting with the representatives of the Faculty of Pharmacology, NUS is a valuable opportunity for VNU-HUS to learn and exchange experiences in the development of this program.

The Bachelor Program in Biopharmaceuticals is opened in order to meet  social needs for human resources capable of basic research and performing analytical techniques of the field of Biopharmaceuticals, in order to develop medicinal resources, new pharmaceuticals and community health care products; capable of doing scientific research, approaching and applying advanced scientific achievements into professional practice.

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Pham The Hai from the Faculty of Biology  expressed his goodwill in exchanging and learning experiences from the NUS’ Faculty of Pharmacy, which will be a valuable source of “material” for the Faculty of Biology in particular and HUS in general to build a more compelling training program, offering students a better learning environment.

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ngac An Bang expressed his wish to start the cooperation with NUS in general and the Faculty of Pharmacy in particular from programs to exchange young lecturers. Supporting and facilitating young lecturers, especially those from the Faculty of Biology and the Faculty of Chemistry, to study and work as PhD students at NUS will be a bridge to help the two institutions become more connected.

Also at the meeting, Prof. Dr. Nguyen The Toan, Dean of the Faculty of Physics, talked about the current high quality students. These students enrolled in talent programs, advanced programs and high-quality programs and they not only have a solid background knowledge but also are fluent in foreign languages. Therefore,  there will be very good teaching and learning opportunities for these students if a cooperation relationship between HUS and NUS is established.

NUS representatives acknowledged and highly appreciated the goodwill of cooperation from the VNU-HUS. NUS hopes that training cooperation will be put into practice in the near future.

After the meeting with representatives of leaders of the University and Faculties, NUS representatives had a meeting and exchange with students of the Faculty of Biology. The students showed interest and had direct discussions with experts from NUS. NUS representatives highly appreciate the concerns that the students have raised. Hopefully in the future, they will choose NUS for higher education.
