VNU and Tsinghua University: Towards building a long-term, sustainable partnership
On January 29, 2024, Prof. Dr. Le Quan – VNU President had a working session with Prof. Qiu Yong – alternate member of the 20th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, Tsinghua University Party Committee secretary, Chairperson of the University Council.

Welcoming Prof. Qiu Yong and Tsinghua University delegation to visit and work with VNU, VNU President Le Quan expressed his impression of this educational institution's achievements and contributions to the development of Chinese education. VNU President Le Quan believed that sharing about the strong development process of Tsinghua University would be a valuable lesson not only for VNU but also for Vietnam's higher education.

According to VNU President Le Quan, VNU has implemented many cooperative activities with Chinese partners in all the activities related to training, scientific research and technology transfer. Currently, there are nearly 600 Chinese students attending either short-term certificate and degree courses, or cultural exchange programs and graduate internships at VNU’s units. Lecturers and staff exchange activities with Chinese universities have also been effectively implemented. In the past year, more than 100 Chinese officials and lecturers had come to VNU to participate in teaching activities, and improve their professional capacity, as well as attend international conferences, seminars and academic exchanges.

VNU President Le Quan said that, implementing the leading role of VNU in the national education system, VNU was assigned to build a project for developing VNU into a university among the world’s top 500 leading universities by 2030 by the Party and State of Vietnam. He wished that besides cooperation on student exchange, Tsinghua University would share experiences in connecting businesses, attracting resources for development and international integration as well as implementing cooperation in exchanging officials and scientists. He also emphasized that in the context that China and Vietnam are promoting practical and effective cooperation, VNU and Tsinghua University would have more opportunities to exchange and cooperate to promote their roles and status as the leading university in each country.

Extending his sincere thanks to Prof. Le Quan for welcoming and working with him, Prof. Qiu Yong expressed his impression of VNU’s achievements and hoped for a long-term partnership between the two universities. He shared that the support from the Chinese Government, the cooperation with businesses and increasing international cooperation were solutions to create better resources for Tsinghua university’s development.

Reaffirming the meaning and importance of the visit to Vietnam by the Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping, Prof. Qiu Yong wished to expand and strengthen higher education exchanges and cooperation between China and Vietnam, especially with Tsinghua University in scientific research, education and talent training.

At the meeting, Prof. Qiu Yong and Prof. Le Quan discussed promising fields of cooperation between the two universities, such as artificial intelligence, social sciences and humanities, technology, computer science, etc., which would be realized by signing a cooperation agreement in the coming time.
