Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko visits Vietnam National University, Hanoi
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko visited Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) and met with its leaders, lecturers and students on April 7, 2023.

Expressing his pleasure and honour to welcome Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko to VNU, VNU President Le Quan gave him an overview of the university, especially of the plan to build and develop VNU into a leading innovative, green, smart and sustainable university town in Hoa Lac.

According to VNU President Le Quan, VNU has three main development strengths including high-quality human resources, autonomous mechanism and Hoa Lac urban space convenient for research cooperation and technology transfer. Hoa Lac-based VNU town to be built under the PM’s direction, following a “5-in-1” model, comprises a talent training centre; a modern research and technology transfer centre; a national and international level innovation centre; a smart and modern university town; a centre for public-private partnership testing and research training. He hoped that VNU would become a centre for science and technology cooperation and high-quality human resource development not only for domestic enterprises and partners but also for international businesses and partners.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko expressed his delight at the university’s experience and prestige in teaching the Russian language, long-term cooperation with many Russian universities. Many cooperation programs in training, student exchange and joint research have been successfully implemented. In addition, VNU is a bridge and liaison for the organization of many historical and cultural exchange events between the two countries.

The Russian Deputy Prime Minister said that he was very interested and wanted to learn more about the building of VNU campus in Hoa Lac. The Russian government is planning to build new international standard universities, paying special attention to the university model that is connected with research and development zones combined with cultural activities such as VNU, Hoa Lac High-tech and Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture.

Agreeing with VNU President Le Quan on the construction of a Russian cultural, scientific and technological space or a friendship square at VNU, the Russian Deputy Prime Minister hoped that VNU would further strengthen cooperation with a number of Russian peers such as Moscow Aviation Institute and Moscow Power Engineering Institute to form an association of Vietnam-Russia technical universities to carry out sci-tech cooperation and transfer activities.

On this occasion, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko participated in planting trees on VNU’s Hoa Lac campus.

Earlier on, on April 6, 2023, VNU President Le Quan attended the 24th meeting of the Vietnam-Russia Inter-Governmental Committee on Economic, Trade and Scientific-Technological Cooperation. At the meeting, in the presence of Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernysheno, VNU President Le Quan, President of Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU), Mr. Boris N.Korobets and Sberbank International Business Coordination and Performance Managing Director, Mr. Oleg S. Kapitonov, signed a tripartite cooperation pact on AI development.
