VNU University of Engineering and Technology contestant wins a silver medal at ICPC 2024
The International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) Asia Pacific Championship 2024 was hosted by VNU University of Engineering and Technology in collaboration with Vietnam Association for Information Processing from February 29 to March 2, 2024. The ICPC Championship title was claimed by the NewTrend team from Seoul National University. The Sudo team from VNU University of Engineering and Technology secured a silver medal in the final round, being Vietnam’s highest ranked team at the contest.

 

According to the ICPC global standards, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on March 2, 2024, the competing teams had to solve 13 algorithm problems to qualify for the 2024 ICPC World Championship to be held in Kazakhstan.

After 5 hours of extremely intense competition, the ICPC championship title was claimed by the NewTrend team, the 2023 ICPC Asia Hue City Champion, from Seoul National University with a total of 9 solved problems.

The three gold medalists were the Speed Star from the University of Tokyo, the KUB1sharp from KUB1sharp and the Absinthe from the National University of Singapore.

The Sudo team from VNU University of Engineering and Technology, the Tonosama from Tokyo Institute of Technology, the PS Akgwi from Soongsil University and the Rigor Mormist from the University of Indonesia were silver medalists.

The bronze medalists were the HCMUS-Exploring World from VNUHCM University of Science, the HUST Kite from Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the RngBased from the National Taiwan University, the AllSolvedin1557 from Pohang University of Science and Technology and the UknoWho from Nanyang Technological University.

The ICPC Asia Pacific Championship 2024 attracted 195 contestants (65 teams) and 50 coaches from 40 most prestigious universities across the region, including Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam. The competing teams have been selected from the regional ICPC qualifiers at ICPC Asia Yokohama, Seoul, Jakarta and Hue City regional contests.

The contest further affirmed Vietnam's regional and international position in terms of young IT resources as well as the ICT integration ability of Vietnamese youth with programming, algorithm engineer, completion, teamwork and foreign languages skills.

During the competition, VNU University of Engineering and Technology ensured adequate facilities and technical equipment, meeting the global ICPC exam standard requirements. The university strived for a best technology and engineering exam, creating the most impressive festival atmosphere for talented young people in algorithms and programming - high-quality young IT human resources. The exam was fully operated by online international standard scoring systems with the Vietnam Olympic Club VNOJ online monitoring system under the direction of Prof. Rie Shigetomi Yamaguchi (Japan). The Board of Examiners comprising selected leading experts from the region was chaired by Mr. Jonathan Irvin Gunawan (Indonesia).
