This was the second time VNU ULIS had hosted this kind of conference which had been developed from the former ULIS Annual Scientific Conference.

VNU Vice President Nguyễn Hữu Đức attended the conference and delivered a speech.

Attending the conference were the leaders from VNU ULIS, HUCFL, DUCFL, the 2020 National Foreign Languages Project, VNU Affiliates and Functional Departments; and more than 500 participants from other higher educational institutions.

More than 100 abstracts were received from scientists, lecturers and staff from the three conference co-organizers and other higher educational institutions such as Tay Nguyen University, Cuu Long University, Sai Gon University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, Quang Binh University, Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Tay Bac University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ha Long University, etc.

Highly appreciating the efforts by VNU ULIS in preparing and organizing the 2017 national conference, VNU Vice President Nguyễn Hữu Đức stressed that VNU ULIS had become a trusted address to attract leading scientists in research and training foreign languages, linguistics and international studies in Vietnam.

VNU Vice President proposed that besides cooperating in organizing workshops, forums for staff, undergraduates and graduates, the three universities of foreign languages should promote joint research projects in linguistics as well as conduct key research projects. VNU is also willing to support HUCFL and DUCFL   in establishing their own research journals in an attempt to increase their citation index as well as effectively promote training and research activities at these two universities.

Addressing the participants, VNU ULIS Rector Đỗ Tuấn Minh said that the received papers were diversified in content and focused on linguistics, foreign languages training and international studies.

The invited papers by the professors from VNU ULIS, HUCFL and DUCFL were delivered at the plenary session; the selected papers were presented and discussed at the eight concurrent sessions; and some of the selected papers were recommended for publication in VNU Journal of Foreign Studies.
