Officially launching nationwide COVID-19 vaccination campaign

Vietnam on July 10 officially launched the historical nationwide COVID-19 vaccination campaign for all people above the age of 18, making it the largest-ever approach in preventing and fighting the pandemic.

The campaign will start from July 2021 and run until April 2022, aiming to achieve the target of vaccinating 75 million people against COVID-19.

Addressing the launch, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said this meaningful event reaffirms the government’s strong determination to stamp down the pandemic and protect people’s lives, thus bringing the country to back to a normal situation.

“Along with Vietnam, the world is facing an unpredictable and serious development of the global health crisis, especially since the occurrence of the Delta variant, with faster and stronger transmissions. Vaccines are the most effective tool to prevent and fight the pandemic,” he noted.

According to Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long, the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination campaign has some differences with the other vaccination programmes carried out in the past.

In transportation, distribution, and preservation of COVID-19 vaccines, the country is building a new system with the support of the military.

The campaign will also carry out inoculations for a huge number of citizens, with many of the state's units involved, including mobile ones. Moreover, the government aims to apply IT during the nine-month campaign.

“The scarcity of COVID-19 vaccines remains globally. However, Vietnam will have more COVID-19 vaccines after September. Therefore, we aim to increase the coverage of vaccination from then on,” Long noted.

On July 10, Vietnam reported 792 new infections, including 600 in Ho Chi Minh City, 75 in Tien Giang province, 50 in Dong Thap, 26 in Vinh Long, among others.

As of July 10, Vietnam recorded a total of 25,486 locally-transmitted infections and 1,914 from entrants into the country.

So far, the country vaccinated over four million people, with about 260,000 receiving both shots.
