In the past year, the potential of science and technology at VNU received further investment for development. Many mechanisms and policies of prioritizing and rewarding scientists and S&T products have been adopted, creating a driving force for promoting the development of S&T potentials, such as Regulations on intellectual property management at VNU; Guidelines on developing and incentivizing strong research groups; Regulations on accreditation, management, and development of VNU-level key laboratories and research centres. In addition, VNU is drafting such documents as Regulations on pilot production project management - building capacity to develop application products in the new strategic 2021-2030 period; Regulations on VNU-level science and technology management (replacing Regulations 3839/QĐ-ĐHQGHN in 2014) - Digital transformation in managing VNU’s science and technology research topics.

The large number of VNU highly-qualified scientific staff approaches the criteria of a research university; among them are many leading experts and internationally-recognised scientists capable of implementing breakthrough and major research programs. The orientation of developing an interdisciplinary laboratory system has been promoted, especially the strategy of developing a 22.9-hectare multidisciplinary laboratory system in Hoa Lac to renovate the organization of research linked with the needs of businesses and to create research aimed at solving significant issues of the country and producing practical applied scientific and technological products.
