VNU Digital Knowledge Centre - Library with expanded functions and tasks will create an important premise to deploy and complete tasks in the 2021-2025 and 2025-2030 periods, including: (i) Digitizing 100% of learning materials for digital research - training - learning; (ii) Collecting, storing, organizing and developing VNU Big Data system; (iii) Building and developing a modern 4.0 technology platform; (iv) Expanding and increasing management services of digital data – information – knowledge; (v) Creating and developing a creative user generation with the ability of lifelong self-learning and self-researching; and (vi) Preparing human resources and implementing the plan to build VNU-LIC in Hoa Lac.
According to the updated data on September 2, 2021, VNU digital repository jumped from the 64th place in May 2021 to the 54th place among the world’s 3,803 institutional digital libraries and the 65th place among the world’s 3,942 institutional digital repositories (up 10 places compared to its position ranked in May 2021).
During the long social distancing break due to the Covid-19 epidemic, VNU-LIC responded promptly and effectively by rapidly transiting from serving traditional learning materials (students must come to the physical library) to digital serving (for remote access, distance learning and teaching). VNU-LIC has always affirmed its important role in continuously supporting VNU’s readers, students, lecturers, and researchers in their remote accessing, learning, teaching due to the Covid-19 epidemic.
According to statistics, from January to October 2021, VNU-LIC set a record in digital learning data (several times higher than 2020) through the following facts:
Total visits to the library in 2021: 31,541,139, increased by 25.07% compared to 23,634,971 visits over the same period of 2020.

Regarding digital resources, VNU-LIC built, created, managed and put into service the digital library with different types of digital data developed on modern technology platforms for a large number of VNU readers; specifically as follows:
(1) Digital learning materials on mobile technology platform (Digital textbooks and reference books) with nearly 100,000 titles. Readers can borrow and read digital documents on mobile devices anywhere, anytime (http://bookworm.vnu.edu.vn/);
(2) The institutional repository system with more than 80,000 names, including ~33,000 theses, ~2,000 scientific research results and more than 45,000 other digital documents (http://repository.vnu.edu.vn/);
(3) Foreign journals and e-books in online electronic databases: ~55,000 e-books; ~4,100 journals of science, including SpringerLink, ScienceDirect, Bookboon, World Scientific, MathSciNet, etc.;
(4) Readers can also connect and explore the global academic big data system (connecting more than 90% of the free Open Access databases of universities worldwide) through the URD2 open access smart search system.
