Promoting scientific research among VNU VJU’s students

On November 10, 2023, Vietnam Japan University held an acceptance council for two student scientific research projects of two groups of students from the Bachelor Program in Computer Science and Engineering (BCSE). Upon assessment, the council deemed both research topics to be highly applicable and recommended further development to enhance their practical suitability.

The first research team consists of six (06) members, including Mr. Bui The Trung (BCSE 2021), Mr. Pham Minh Tuan (BCSE 2021), Mr. Pham Quang Anh (BCSE 2021), Mr. Nguyen Thai Son (BCSE 2021), Mr. Tran Hoang Hiep (BCSE 2021), and Mr. Nguyen Dang Phuc Thanh (BCSE 2021) with the topic “Design and development of an IOT-enabled smart agriculture lab for environmental monitoring and control using ESP32.” With the idea of applying IOT in the agricultural field, the research team conducted tests, collected, analyzed and had results showing the effectiveness of environmental monitoring and control with ESP32 through support of IOT. The research team also proposed new solutions to reduce costs so that research can be applied more widely to help improve agricultural productivity.

The second research group consists of four (04) members, including Mr. Tran Tien Toan (BCSE 2021), Mr. Le Minh Khoi (BCSE 2021), Mr. Chu Tuan Viet (BCSE 2021) and Mr. Bui Duy Hung (BCSE 2021) with the topic “Monitoring the biological movements of mosquito fish and Medaka fish using computer vision”. The application of computer vision technology to monitor the biological movements of mosquito fish and Medaka fish has yielded promising results, as demonstrated by the research team. This innovation offers several advantages, including a more efficient management approach and timely solutions that can improve the overall quality of biological research.

After listening to the two research groups defending the topic, the council deemed both research topics to be highly applicable and recommended further development to enhance their practical suitability.

In the current trend of global integration, well-structured scientific research activities can effectively enhance the quality of education by facilitating autonomy and creativity among students. Moreover, such activities can serve as a driving force for proposing new topics, thereby fostering dynamism and innovation in students’ learning and scientific research.

Conducting and defending a scientific research project provides students with a unique opportunity to enhance their skills in communication and presentation, instilling in them a sense of confidence when presenting before the scientific council. This experience is both valuable and interesting experience that not every student has in their student life.
