On May 22, 2020, VNU-IS officially organized the Launching Ceremony of the VNU International School Scientist Links (VISL) and announced the establishment of 10 primary research groups.

Attended the Ceremony were VNU Vice President Nguyen Hoang Hai – Chairman of VNU Scientist Links (VSL), representatives of VNU functional departments, VSL members, enterprises, scientists and lecturers of VNU, VNU-IS and other universities in Hanoi.

The Ceremony was an important event prior to the celebration of Vietnam Science and Technology Day (May 18), which is a great milestone marking significant changes in science and technology development of VNU-IS in 2020.

The VISL was established with the aim to connect young scientists of VNU-IS with their counterparts from Vietnamese universities, partner universities and from the Visiting Scholar Program, thus creating a “young talent pool” that produces plenty of human resources with innovative thinking and enthusiasm, who are willing to engage in key tasks concerning science and technology development of VNU-IS. 

The VISL aims to create a network of VNU-IS scientists to promote teaching and research exchange and cooperation; to support the development of young scientists to meet a wide range of standards; to foster international publications; and to enhance leadership and promote the understanding of VNU-IS culture and developmental orientation, thus identify potential candidates for future key tasks and management positions.

The VISL will provide maximum support to the 10 primary research groups of VNU-IS, which officially made their first appearance to VNU research community at the Ceremony. Their fields of research include Management and International Business; Economics; Business Administration; Marketing; Finance; Management; Computer science and information; Information systems; Data science; Machine learning, smart computing and applications; Linguistics and Teaching methodology.

VNU Vice President Nguyen Hoang Hai expressed that the term “young scientist links” did not refer to the age but to the spirit and enduring enthusiasm for academic science. VNU Vice President affirmed the great significance of the VISL in promoting research activities within VNU. In addition, the Vice President expected the VISL to create a true academic environment with a strong focus on research and teaching that enables scientists to directly propose creative ideas to VNU-IS Leaderships. “It is interesting that the research groups will not be isolated in their own research field since the VISL is a common place for professional activities of research groups from different areas, thereby offering them the opportunities to broaden their horizons through the acquisition of multidisciplinary information, thus facilitate the formation of interdisciplinary research groups”, said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Hai.

Attendees of the Ceremony were especially impressed with the introduction of the 10 research groups, consisting of scientists and technologists with outstanding achievements in research and experience in establishing foreign and domestic research groups, for instance, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Khuong - who was ranked 7th out of top 200 global young economists by RePEc and now a member of the PM’s Economic Advisory Group responsible for advising the PM on economic issues; Prof. Dr. Sc. Ho Tu Bao, specialized in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, member of Think Tank VINASA and currently advisor to VNU-IS’s Business Data Analytics program; and Prof. Dr. Le Thi Hoai An – one of the leading experts in knowledge transfer in the field of Computer science and Artificial Intelligence, who received the medal of “Ordre des Palmes Académiques” bestowed by the French Government. Selected leaders of the aforementioned research groups are faculty members of VNU-IS.
