The Vietnam National Gazetteers Project

VNU organized evaluation of the detailed outlines of 28 volumes of the Vietnam National Gazetteers Project and completed a set of regulations on gazetteers’ compilation; compiled a sample local gazetteer; conducted surveys and exchanged learned experience in building and managing gazetteers, etc. To date, 15 volumes have been qualified for compilation. VNU has coordinated with many localities to both develop criteria for compiling local gazetteers and apply the unified norms to local gazetteer compilation. VNU has also built a network of cooperation agencies as well as initially attracted hundreds of scientists to participate in the compilation. At the meeting on June 17th, 2020, after listening to VNU's report on the implementation of the Vietnam National Gazetteers Project, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam highly appreciated the efforts and enthusiasm of the involved scientists. The Vietnam National Gazetteers Project along with other scientific works and projects is practical and meaningful now and later on, consistent with the view that regards science and education as the prime national policy, and culture as the foundation for the country’s development

The Translation and Promotion of Quintessence of Oriental Classics Project

In 2019, the Prime Minister assigned VNU to host the implementation of the Translation and Promotion of Quintessence of Oriental Classics Project. This is a project implemented on a yearly basis with mobilized private finance and resources from domestic and international collectives and individuals. Up to now, the project has mobilized funding from many organizations and individuals, ensuring the provision of necessary equipment and working conditions for the entire project, such as 600m2 of office space, machinery and equipment. By June 2020, the project had collected a huge number of classics including hundreds of books (nearly 20,000 volumes) and crucial classic collections.

Building Government Open Data

On August 31st, 2020, the Ministry of Information and Communication, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Training, Vietnam Social Security, VNU and Vietnam Post Corporation signed a cooperation agreement on promoting and implementing the National Open Data portal. This is an evidence of the commitment of State agencies to the implementation of data management activities, providing open data to the community and society, as well as demonstrating the cohesion and companionship between these agencies and organizations and enterprises in coordination to promote open data deployment. VNU has coordinated and properly implemented its responsibility in the project. With its scientific potentials, VNU has developed and built national and regional databases, notably, the database of 14 Northwestern provinces under the Northwest Program.
