Digitally-oriented smart university governance

Modern university governance associated with the development of a smart university model is being drastically implemented by VNU. The investment project on “Digital University at VNU” has been implemented as scheduled. Data centre, virtualization platform software and BigData have been upgraded for integration with the Digital University project. The application of information technology has been enhanced to partly simplify and publicize administrative procedures such as software for international student admissions in order to promote the image and activities of VNU’s online international standard training programs; online softwares for training management, science and technology and financial planning have been put into use.

The results of information technology application in regular university admissions have initially showed a budding sign, creating a foundation for the development of a digital university. VNU is going to focus on investing in building modern information technology infrastructure and a roadmap to digitize lectures so as to reach the target of 20% online teaching modules in the 2020 - 2025 period.

Improving faculty capacity through innovation smart university governance

In 2020, despite the complicated Covid-19 epidemic, VNU’s training courses were effectively delivered in different forms, timely meeting the development requirements of VNU in the new context.

- At VNU level, there were 04 refreshment courses with nearly 300 learners. Among the courses, there were classes specially for leaders, managers of department and divisions or equivalents according to the Prime Minister’s Directive 28/ CT-TTg dated September 18th, 2018.

- Most of the VNU member units also organized online refreshment courses amidst the COVID-19 epidemic and teaching activities innovation in general, etc. The training units applied digital technology platforms to deploy online teaching modes such as: UPM, Microsoft team, Zoom, Google classroom, etc. Several training units promoted training activities on innovation for teachers. Specifically, VNU University of Languages and International Studies held 05 classes themed "Inspiring educators"; VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities held 04 training classes named "Innovative startup educators"; VNU University of Economics and Business conducted a series of training activities called "Innovative educators" and Final Pitching on "Inspirational Classroom Contest"; or the training course named "Innovative and entrepreneur educators" organized by Vietnam-Japan University, showing the spread of the Vibe community, etc. Notably, the Centre for Teaching Excellence organized 10 training courses on applying information technology in teaching, developing video lectures, organizing seminars on methodological innovation for teachers; a training course on "Self-assessment and writing self-assessment reports at training program level according to the education quality accreditation standards of the Ministry of Education and Training and AUN-QA"
