During the presentation, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy Hang pointed out VJU’s current situation with more external than internal branding. From Hosei’s perspective, Dr. Takuma Sato shared some of his experience in the management of the ‘Branding Promotion Project’ to re-establish the ‘Hosei Brand’. He emphasized the process of developing staff’s skills and establishing a solid brand will cost patience and time.
The series ended with the third workshop on University’s staff development system. Mr. Takahiro Kubo discussed the case study of Hosei University in this session. He stated some key points in the human resource development system at Hosei University, including no hiring specialists to foster generalists who can demonstrate their abilities in a variety of situations, and a detailed promotion roadmap for staff to become leaders, then managers and directors.

This topic raised some questions from VJU to Hosei about the training of generalists with specialized knowledge required for their work and the recruitment of undergraduates. Dr. Sato explained that staff at Hosei University will rotate every five years with various training programs provided to develop their expertise. And Hosei does recommend its outstanding students to apply for positions. However, they still need to take the SPA test and have three interviews like other candidates.
The workshop series was finalized with the call for further collaboration between VJU and Hosei University from Chief Advisor, Dr. Shinichi Ishihara, he quoted a famous saying “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”.
