The seminar “Sustainable Energy Development in Vietnam” was organized on 17 June 2023 by Vietnam Japan University with more than 50 participants (policy makers, experts, scientists, and students) from 4 countries (Vietnam, Japan, India, Myanmar).
Firstly, Dr. Nguyen Hoang Oanh, Vice-rector of Vietnam Japan University delivered the welcome speech and highlighting the importance of energy development, climate change and net-zero issues.
Secondly, Energy Expert Nguyen Anh Tuan, Standing member of the Executive Committee of Vietnam Energy Association and Deputy Director of Institute of Energy and Environment introduced Vietnam’s energy status, orientation for sustainable energy development in Vietnam with the emphasize on development of power sources in the Power Development Plan (PDP) VIII as well as challenges and opportunities for sustainable energy development in Vietnam.
Next, Dr. Ta Dinh Thi, Vice Chairman of the Science, Technology and Environment Committee of the 15th National Assembly of Vietnam delivered the speech. He emphasized that sustainable energy development is an urgent requirement that needs the joint efforts of the international community, individual countries, governments, businesses, social organizations, resident communities, and people. Vietnam’s Party and State have promulgated relevant guidelines, policies and laws to ensure sustainable energy development. However, major challenges (i.e, finance, technology, administration, and human resources) should be overcome for energy security and climate change response.
The Seminar continued with questions Assoc. Prof. Luu Duc Hai, Prof. Mai Trong Nhuan, Prof. Phan Van Tan, Dr. Nguyen Van Thang and discussion among invited speakers and participants.
Finally, Prof. Nhuan, Director of Master Program on Climate Change and Development (MCCD) to wrap-up and closing remarks. He highlighted the international and national context, role, orientation as well as the role of higher education in general and Vietnam Japan University in particular for sustainable energy development in Vietnam.
