The white goby was given to the Museum by Japan’s Crown Prince Akihito (now the Emperor) in 1976; and the Onagadori chicken, a precious chicken breed in Japan, was a gift from Japan’s Crown Prince Akishino on August 17, 2012.
Crown Prince Akishino is a careful and meticulous person. He does everything in a thoughtful and proper manner. Like the Emperor and Empress, Crown Prince Akishino is passionate about science research, especially biology.
With his passion in biology research, the Crown Prince pays more attention to the Southeast Asia countries, which, with a tropical monsoon climate, are rich in plants and animals. He has joined and become the member of many animal-related associations and is currently a researcher at the University of Tokyo Museum.

Japan’s Crown Prince Akishino carefully watched the specimen of the white goby, a present from Japan’s Emperor Akihito in 1976. He expressed his sincere thanks to VNU and the museum for taking good care of the specimen for nearly 50 years.
Apart from the above-named exhibits, the Crown Prince also showed interest in a large number of specimens of other animal and plant species, especially the rare ones, exhibited at the museum.
Established in 1926, the Museum of Biology was the first of its kind in Indochina. The Museum preserves hundreds of thousands of animal and plant specimens collected since the late 19th century, including those as presents from foreign heads of state, scientists and museums.
