VNU continued to promote the implementation of international cooperation projects to improve the quality of training, capacity building, and attracting resources for the development of VNU.
The Vietnam Partnership for Higher Education Reform Project (The PHER project) was officially launched at the end of 2021 with the expectation that it would contribute to raising governance capacity, improving the quality of training and research activities, and enhancing the quality of human resources of three major universities in Vietnam, namely VNU, Hanoi; VNU, Ho Chi Minh City; and the University of Da Nang. The United States Agency for International Development funds the project in coordination with Indiana University, USA.
VIBE Project, funded by the Irish Embassy, has implemented 8 training courses on "Innovation in Education" for nearly 500 staff, lecturers, and students from VNU and some northern provinces. The training courses not only changed mindsets, promoted creativity, activated innovative entrepreneurial thinking in learners but also equipped them with the necessary skills of the 21st century, helping learners better connect with colleagues and friends and form an influential community of practice inside and outside VNU.

In December 2021, VNU was assigned by the Government to chair the project of building a Center for Scientific Research and Training at the National University of Laos with the aid of the Vietnamese Government for the Lao Government. The ongoing project will promote and support the effective implementation of cooperation activities between Vietnam and Laos, including training, scientific research; officials, lecturers, and students exchange..., thereby contributing to strengthening facilities, improving the capacity of staff and students, and providing high-quality human resources for the National University of Laos in particular and Laos in general.
