The 2023-2024 academic year began in a special context with nearly 30 VNU’s members and affiliated units currently working in VNU town in Hoa Lac just one year after the relocation of VNU headquarters to Hoa Lac. VNU is changing strongly into a smart and green university, synchronous in terms of facilities, modern in equipment, and yet to be completed into a “5-in-1” model to raise VNU’s status in its new stage of development.

VNU President Le Quan beats the drum to open the 2023 – 2024 academic year

According to VNU President Le Quan, at the 8th Conference of the Party Central Committee, term XIII, many issues related to education and training were discussed. In particular, VNU was assigned to build a project to develop into one of the world’s 500 leading universities by 2030. VNU's development strategy to 2030 with a vision to 2045 clearly states the goal of "Becoming a research, innovation, multi-disciplinary university among Asia’s and the world’s leading universities" by 2045. To achieve that goal, VNU Party Executive Committee has approved 6 key tasks for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Also according to VNU President Le Quan, “VNU has the resources to well carry out the tasks assigned by the Government. They are the Party and Government's policy mechanism support; spatial and landscape resources in Hoa Lac favourable for implementing scientific research and comprehensive development training activities with a focus on learners and lecturers and developing high-quality, highly qualified scientific human resources of VNU".

VNU President Le Quan further stressed that the opening ceremony of the 2023-2024 academic year became even more meaningful as 6,000 students, four times as many compared to last year, from 8 VNU’s members and affiliated units have come to study in VNU town in Hoa Lac.

From the first semester of the 2023-2024 academic year, VNU will implement the comprehensive education project for first-year full-time students studying in VNU town in Hoa Lac in three aspects: Physically strong – Mentally powerful - Good in social skills. Under the comprehensive education model, students will be trained in full competencies, including global citizenship, digital competence, adaptive capacity and innovation capacity.

From the second semester of the 2023-2024 academic year, VNU will develop a new physical education program, which officially conducts the traditional Martial Arts training. In addition, VNU will organize sports activities according to the Club model for its students to develop their strengths, create excitement and maintain student’s regular exercise habits.

The QG-HN04 lecture hall and dormitory complex in VNU town in Hoa Lac in use since September 2023

In addition to the HT1 and HT2 lecture hall complexes (in operation since 2022) in Hoa Lac, VNU completed the QG-HN04 lecture hall complex to meet the learning needs of thousands of students. Also, VNU is completing the infrastructure and synchronizing the required functional facilities such as lecture hall, residence, research, physical education, utility services, health care, experience, etc. It is expected that by 2025, VNU’s Phase 1 facilities in Hoa Lac will have been completed, providing learning and research facilities for 15,000 students.

At the ceremony, the representative of IMG Investment Joint Stock Company awarded two VNU’s talent scholarships worth 150 million VND funded by IMG Foundation and 50 million VND to Nguyen Van Thang – a student from VNU University of Engineering and Technology and Nguyen Anh Nhat Tran – a student from VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

During the ceremony, VNU also received funding from businesses and partners, creating values for both VNU and its students.

Within the framework of the Opening ceremony, many activities were carried out by students from VNU’s member and affiliated training units, namely Seminar "Locating oneself - I look for myself"; Marathon Running and Experiencing Ethnic Sports and Folk Games; Meeting with the Business Alumni Club and honouring partners for their contributions to the development of VNU; Student music exchange activity "Random dance"; A series of skill practice activities "Vicenarian backpacks"; “VNU's Folk Dance 2023” festival final; "New Student Singing 2023" contest final; Experiencing the culinary culture space and games; Book gallery, etc.

As part of the Opening ceremony of the 2023 - 2024 academic year, celebrating the 19th anniversary of Vietnam Entrepreneurs' Day, VNU organized the program "Connecting and honouring business partners & VNU’s entrepreneur alumni". During the program, VNU President Le Quan awarded Medals “For the Development of VNU” to Mr. Nguyen Manh Thang - Chairman, General Director of Song Da 7 Urban and Industrial Zone Investment Joint Stock Company, Vice Chairman of the Executive Board of VNU Entrepreneur Alumni Club and Mr. Nguyen Duy Dung - Chairman of the Advisory Council of Vinaconex Corporation, Vice Chairman of the Executive Board of VNU Entrepreneur Alumni Club  in recognition of their valuable contributions to the development of VNU.
