With national and international prestige and position as well as its long tradition in training, scientific research and knowledge transfer, VNU has implemented a number of strategies to nurture young scientists. To concretize and implement the guidelines and policies of the Party and State, and VNU’s Development Strategy up to 2030, vision to 2045, on December 31, 2021, VNU President approved the project “Incubating young scientists at VNU to 2025”. The project aims to strengthen high-quality human resources and connect scientists, collaborators and learners, who are teaching, doing scientific research or studying at VNU and prestigious universities in Vietnam and abroad. Potential incubation participants are undergraduates, graduates and young lecturers having the desire to become scientists and meeting VNU's eligibility requirements.
Activities to nurture young scientists at VNU are carried out synchronously, including career guidance and attracting excellent students from high schools to train at undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral levels at VNU and international partners; recruiting and positioning them for their best development. The project also aims to support and create breakthroughs in VNU’s training quality, scientific research and innovation, as well as to provide young socio-economic, science–technology scientific human resources for domestic and foreign businesses, contributing to enhancing VNU’s scientific position and prestige.
In the 2022-2023 academic year, VNU started piloting fully-funded scholarships for students of 18 basic sciences from VNU University of Science and VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities. The scholarship includes tuition exemption, free dormitory accommodation, priority participation in scientific research and young scientist incubation programs, priority in other scholarship awards, and cost of living support of 20 million VND/academic year. VNU's scholarship program for basic sciences creates an open mechanism to help students with excellent achievements to study their favourite majors along with attractive scholarship policies that encourage learning, create motivation to become good students and cultivate human resources for advanced education levels, as well as future scientific human resources.
Within the framework of the project “Incubating young scientists at VNU” and VNU Industry Collaboration Hub, VNU has implemented its Young Leaders Program 2023 with the participation of more than 100 VNU outstanding students; the Future Bankers 2023 and the Tech Talent Hunt 2023 attracted more than 100 qualified students from VNU and beyond. Through these activities, VNU identified candidates with capacities to become scientists, financial experts, future bankers, technologists, or potential employees at domestic and international financial and technology organizations, etc.
